Equally important is dog safety than dog training. And the health of the dog also depends on the security measure implemented. To care for your Westie dog inside the house, the use of baby gates is recommended. But even so, baby gates are not such a valuable lifeline to keep your dog from escaping through the open door.

As for Westie's training, people try different tips for successful training. So, for security there are also few things that should be taken into consideration. Floor level cabinets must be equipped with child resistant locks, all medications and cleaning products must be stored in a safe place; electric cables, hot plates, coffee jugs, portable heaters, plastic bags should be placed in the right place, without reaching the children. Toxic plants must be removed from the home.

You should check the dog's toy periodically to make sure that broken pieces do not get stuck in their throats. For Westie's strong jaw, plastic and vinyl toys are not suitable. It is also recommended not to give them toys to chew skin, pig's ears or hooves, since swallowed pieces of these toys can cause respiratory or intestinal problems.

Summer security

It is important to keep your Westie cool, safe and cozy during the summer season. Dog training experts recommend not taking your dog in a car, if the trips involve stopping in places where you can not take your pets. This is because the temperature in the car can reach up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit in just one minute, which is not suitable for dogs. If you see any animal with signs of heat anxiety, call the animal care and control center immediately.

Avoid intense training during extremely hot climates. Avoid physical exercise when the heat is intense and the hot tar from the floor can burn your dog's feet. Westie's training should be done indoors during the hot day in the cool, well-ventilated room. And make sure that dogs can approach fresh, clean water.

If you take your dog to the beach, make it available with a shady spot and enough water to drink. If the dog has been in salt water, you should rinse them. Never let your dog show fireworks. Even the quietest pets can be frightened by crowds, deafening noises and blazing lights.

For the proper health of your Westie during the Westie training sessions, you should check with the vet about the flea and its prevention. It is suggested not to use any combination of anti-flea medicines for worms for Westie. Your dog should be examined regularly for preventions.

You have to take your dog to the veterinarian if they show any kind of the following symptoms:

1. Shake heads and touch ears

2. Rubbing or squinting

3. Lick and bite the rectum and other parts of the body or rub the head on the floor

4. Violent sneezing with discharge of blood from the nose

5. Whine and howl for no reason

6. Contaminated stain raised with inflammation
